Eating DisordersStatistics appear to show that the number of people suffering from eating disorders is on the rise like never before. Eating disorders, whilst some the effect of other illnesses physical or psychological, are often due to social issues and most susceptible to feel these pressures are teenage girls and young women who have the arduous task of living up to the unreal expectations of the ultra-thin and ultra-beautiful faces and figures they are constantly being bombarded with by advertising companies. |
Eating Disorders An eating disorder is a cycle which is extremely hard to break, and most susceptible are women who suffer from low self esteem and confidence issues. The two main eating disorders are Bulimia and Anorexia. People who are bulimic tend to binge eat above average amounts of food before bringing it all back up to avoid putting on weight. This not only damages the delicate throat tissues as bile is constantly being brought up from the stomach, but also means a person is gaining very little nutrition from foods they consume. In time, a person will begin to feel ill and suffer from classic symptoms of malnutrition. Anorexia is a disorder in which a person will eat very little amounts of food near to the point of starving themselves believing themselves to be too overweight to eat. A person with anorexia will soon become malnourished and suffer from a host of health issues. One of the main issues with bulimia and anorexia is that any person with image issues can develop them. Some of the world’s most beautiful and naturally slim women have reported they developed eating disorders because they felt they weren’t slim or beautiful enough, and although it sounds absurd, it just goes to show any person is susceptible. Both eating disorders can be extremely hard to break and it is imperative that professional intervention is sought as soon as possible, as many people each year die from the devastating effects of anorexia and bulimia and other eating disorders.
